How to remain healthy and happy this winter

While the northern hemisphere gets ready to welcome summer, those of us down under, are bracing for winter.  How to cope with the mid-year chill? How to stay fit and increase immunity? Join Deidaa for a winter-wellness boot camp!

Stock up on winter clothes

This is a no-brainer. Some Australian cities can have four seasons in a day. Layering is the key to ride the climate swings in Australia.  Stock up on jackets, winter coats, pants, boots, headwear and  scarves. Spruce up your scarf wardrobe in Winter 2021. We, at Deidaa, have a love affair with scarves. Scarves combine function and style. They help combat the winter chill. You can update your wardrobe by adding some on-trend scarves. Invest in some classic big ticket items – blazers and coats. Top up the staples with trendy scarves and beanies, each season. There you go – style does not always come at a price. Begin with some cashmere wraps in solid colours. Buffer your scarf collection with stylish florals and chunky weaves. Man scarves are trending this winter.  Wrap a smart man scarf around your neck and voila, you are ready for your zoom call with the boss.

Eat Healthy

Eat healthy. Go big on winter vegetables like spinach and broccoli, berries and citrus fruits. Add herbs and spices.  Ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, chamomile and basil have enormous health benefits. Crush fresh herbs and spices to release flavour and optimise the benefits.

Ginger is a natural remedy for cold and flu, pain, inflammation and heartburn. Use a pugging pot to smash a cube of ginger. Add to your morning cuppa.

Turmeric is a natural anti –oxidant. It fights inflammation, heart and brain diseases. Add turmeric to a glass of warm milk. Season with cinnamon. Voila! Your golden milk is ready.

Move!

Have a fitness regime. Keep your body warm and blood flowing.  Boost your immune system. Low impact exercise such as yoga and stretches are easy to do at home. Weight training builds up your muscles and prevents muscular and bone atrophy. Breathing exercises strengthen lung capacity. Make sure you wear some free flowing kaftans that do not restrict your movements.
